Going Green:

NSCG introduces green-screen technology for small-budget videos

Every year, we get the opportunity to work with the talented YMCA development  team. This year, we focused on encouraging donors to generously support children so they can attend the Y Summer Programs, regardless of their ability to pay.

November 15th, 2010, the YMCA of the North Shore held it's annual fund raising Gala. After the event Beth Francis, the Chief Development Officer, kindly dashed off an e-mail:  "Thought you might like to know that your wonderful work paid off big on Saturday night.  We raised $75,350 in camperships at the gala... Most ever. The night was a huge success.  Thank you for your wonderful expertise."

The closing scene for the SuperKids video called for two summer kids on the beach. In late October, that would have been pretty hard on the kids, so we shot the scene against a green screen an matted in the beach. Take a look: http://www.vimeo.com/16095814

Analytics Prove Short Videos Work Best:

We just released a new white paper entitled, "A Business Approach for Producing Social Media Videos: Six Tips for Producing Effective Streaming Videos."

Placing compelling video content on your web site improves brand awareness while increasing both traffic to your site and the length of the session times. As a result, your website becomes more valuable to both your enterprise and to your fans. But viewers are ruthless, and they make the rules. Read our white paper to learn more.

5 Steps To Designing

Effective On-Line Videos

Here is our advice on designing effective on-line videos for websites.

1.) Design the video to address the viewer's concerns, not yours. Position the message in terms of what the viewers is looking for.

2.) Presume that the viewer has very little time and wants to get to the point and move on - make the message short.

3.) The old Maxim still holds true:

  • Tell them what you are going to tell them,
  • Tell them, and
  • Tell them what you told them.

4.) ALWAYS work from a written script. Take the time to write a concise script. Read it to a broad sample of  "viewers." Test the message to make sure that it resonates with your sample audience. It's important that they listen to the script, and not read it, because that's the way the viewer will experience your message.

5.) The Medium is the Message: If you are saying that your video message (and, by association, your company) offers the best solution (quality, product, information, etc.), the video better look and sound the part. Poor lighting, distorted audio, and amateur editing all trump the spoken word in your video and say to the viewer  " This is all we were willing to invest in you."

Video technology for web site presentations is now both robust and reliable. If the possibilities of online presentations intrigue you, please call us with your questions. We'd be happy to share what we've learned.

Video is Preferred Over Text

When it comes to overviews or education, video is rapidly becoming preferred to text. There is an excellent white paper on the explosive growth of video entitled “Video SEO white paper” on the Blinkx web site (see: http://www.blinkx.com/whitepapers).

The method of disseminating information is changing rapidly. To take advantage of the internet, please give us a call.
